Strategy : Expression of Agreement, Expression of Uncertainty and Suggestion, Untrue Condition
Let me introduce myself. My name is St.Masita Nur Khalifah. I’am a student in Business English Communication at Universitas Negeri Makassar.
Today we study Listening 4 Academic Purpose as usual. Today we learn about three strategies in Listening such as Listen to Expression of Agreement, Listen to Expression of Uncertainty and Suggestion and Listen to Untrue Condition.
1. Listen to Expression of Agreement
Agreement is an expession or attitude of agreeing with the statements or opinions of others.
Example :
A : The dress is so beautiful.
B : Yes, it is so beautiful dress.
2. Listen for Expression of Uncertainty and Suggestion
Uncertainty is an expression used to indicate something that is uncertain.
Example :
1. I'm not sure that the company will actually raise our salary, Bambang. They said the same thing last year, but still there is no change in my account.
2. I have doubts about it, Tio. We just did some reshuffling six months ago. It's too early to reshuffle again.
Suggestion is an expression in the form of suggestions or suggestions.
Example :
1. You should not go to school before fully recovered.
2. You had better study hard about math.
3. Listen to Untrue Conditions
Untrue Condition is something like a wish.
Example :
1. If she was at home, she could help us.
- She's not at home now, and she can't help us now.
2. I would have helped you if I'd know you needed me.
- I didn't help you, and I didn't know you needed me.
