Let me introduce myself. My name is St.Masita Nur Khalifah. I’am a student in Business English Communication at Universitas Negeri Makassar.

Today we study Listening 4 Academic Purpose as usual. Today our activity is to work on the quiz that has been given. This quiz is given to test the skills we have learned before.

In this quiz, there are three skills tested, namely Focus on the Last Line, Avoid Similar Sounds, and Answer With Synonyms.

1. Focus on the Last Line

This skill has a strategy where we have to focus on the last line of the questions given.

Example :

M : Why couldn't Mark come with us?

W : He was searching for a new apartment.

(-) What does the woman say about Mark?

A. He was in the department store

B. He was looking for a place to live

C. He was working on his research paper

D. He had an appointment at church

Answer : B

2. Avoid Similar Sounds

In this skill we have to avoid words with the same sound.

Example :

1. Bitter : Better

3. Answer With Synonyms

In this skill we answer a question by paying attention to the similarity of words.

Example :

W : Why does Barbara feel so happy?

M : She just started working in a real estate agency

(-) What does the man say about Barbara?

A. She always liked her work in real estate

B. She started a new job

C. She just bought some real estate

D. She bought a real estate agency

Answer : B
