How to Research, Pitch, and Interview in Journalism

Hi! I’m St. Masita Nur Khalifah, a Business English Communication student, batch 2022. In my English for Journalism class, I learned three essential skills for creating strong news stories: research, pitching, and interviewing.

1. Research: Journalists must identify relevant and interesting topics by gathering information from reliable sources and verifying facts to ensure accuracy.

2. Pitching: Once you have a story idea, pitch it to an editor with a clear, persuasive argument about why it’s newsworthy and important for the audience.

3. Interviewing: Interviewing is key to getting valuable quotes. By asking open-ended questions and listening actively, journalists gather insights that make the story rich and engaging.

Mastering these skills helps journalists create compelling and credible news stories.
