Principles of Journalism

Hi! I’m St. Masita Nur Khalifah, a Business English Communication student, batch 2022. In my English for Journalism class, I recently learned about principles in journalism and this is two principles that interesting to me, transparency and verification. These principles help journalists build public trust and deliver reliable news.

Transparency means being open about the process of gathering and reporting news. Journalists should disclose their sources, explain their methods, and acknowledge any limitations in their reporting. This honesty allows readers to understand how the information was obtained and helps prevent misunderstandings or mistrust.

Verification is the process of checking and confirming facts before publishing a story. Journalists cross-check sources, consult reliable data, and verify details to ensure accuracy. This process protects against spreading false information and upholds journalism’s commitment to truth.

Together, transparency and verification are essential for maintaining credibility in journalism. Learning about these principles has deepened my appreciation for the careful work that goes into trustworthy reporting.
